This project was a chance to gather my rulers, chalk lines, and brushes and paint a mural at the screen printing shop. The design was based on a previously made van wrap, so I chose to match the vehicle wrap colors and fonts to design this mural that doubles as a welcome sign and a directional indicator to point the way to sales personnel. There’s a progression from digital planning, to measuring the wall, and then adding masking tape and paint.
Digital Planning
This part of the project was the digital equivalent of a sketch in a notebook. I did a lot of the same things I would do on paper, but having the measurements come into form in real-time is more convenient when it comes to converting the idea to measurements to apply to the wall. I’m such a visual thinker that having resizable, rotatable, stretchable vectors to work with is exponentially better, even in the planning phase.
Measuring, Taping
During this phase, I was able to preview the placement of lines in relation to other lines with painter’s tape, helping with stenciling straight, clean lines and sharp edges (in theory). This stuff is versatile and reusable. After the tape was placed, paint was applied and then the tape was removed.
